(WMC-TV) – A Mid-South business owner says she would not fall victim to a robbery, so she decided to matters in her own hands. That choice put two accused robbers behind bars.

The owner of Novedades Leon asked not to be identified, decided to get a gun after being robbed twice in just a few months.

“I guess after they got money the first time, they thought we were easy target that they could come get money from any time,” she said. “I had a revolver. A .38.”

Monday night, police say three men pointed guns at the store owner and her sister, and demanded money.

So the owner pulled out her gun, squeezed off a round, and chased them away.

“Sometimes, you know, you just don’t think you react. You got the fear but you also got the anger. Because you’re tired of it and we work so hard for somebody to come and just rob us like that,” she said.

No one was hurt.

Police found Reginald Hurd and Cordarius Miles just a few blocks away. Both are now charged with attempted armed robbery.

“I was not that kind of person that wanted to have a gun. And I never even thought that I would shoot at somebody, but when you’re in that situation where you say it’s my like or their life, it’s my life.”

Hurd and Cordarius are both in jail on a $50,000 bond.

Affidavit says police caught a third suspect, but there is no record of his arrest.

The store owner told us she has no plans on closing up shop and still has hope, adding “If we all work together, Memphis can be a better place.”
